Phal. FANGtastic Marianne Ciola 'Sakura' (Kaoda Davis Pearl 'Firebird' x aphrodite var formosanum) , MC2594
We named this very captivating cross after our client and good friend Marianne Ciola. This comes from our own breeding program using two remarkable parents in our collection.
The pod parent, our clone Phal. Kaoda Davis Pearl 'Firebird', is a complex Phal hybrid with Harlequin breeding in its background (like Phal. Ox Black Face). It produces velvety, long-lasting, 4-inch ox-blood red flowers with intense color saturation on gently arching spikes. The color will intensify will under warmer day and night temperatures, resulting in a smaller central white halo. It is one of the most regal presentations in larger flowered harlequin-influenced phalaenopsis. Native to Taiwan, Phal. aphrodite var. formosanum is a compact species with very round foliage and white flowers. Our award-winning strain produces multitudes of very round, full, pristine-white flowers on readily branching but compact cascading inflorescences.
The clone ‘Sakura’ (the Japanese word for cherry blossom) was selected from over 500 seedlings for its amazing 3-inch, cherry-blossom pink color, sparkling diamond-dusted texture, and compact branching inflorescence. These plants are half the size of Phal. Kaoda Davis Pearl 'Firebird' exhibiting very strong species influence from Phal. aphrodite var. formosanum. The fine spots on the flowers are unique, adorable, and eye-catching. As with the pod parent, the color should intensify under warmer day and night temperatures. Perfect for growing on a window sill, under lights, or in an orchid cabinet.
