This cross was created and registered by Mr. Yang Yang in 2016, made highly acclaimed Phal. gigantea f. alba 'Ta-Wei'. Mr. YangYang has been hybridizing with Phal. gigantea f. alba, which has been generating many hybrids with extraordinary color! Photo shows the first seedling to bloom and we are not disappointed!
The pod parent, Phal. Zheng Min Diamondback (Yaphon Gelacea x Chang Maw Jade), has produced many amazing modern novelty phal hybrids including Phal. YangYang Black Angel, Phal. YangYang Yellow Jade, Phal. Golden Girl, Phal. Green Angel, Phal. Red Angel, and Phal. YangYang Princess. Phal. gigantea f. alba, as a parent, reduces the size of plant and makes it faster to mature and free flowering versus the Phal. gigantea (Borneo form). In addition, it imparts late winter/early spring flowering in its hybrids—a plus for Novelty Phalaenopsis.
The long-lasting fragrant flowers have a diamond-dusted texture, and are waxy with a heavy substance. It has a multiple spiking habit, which means new flower spikes form while older mature spikes are still blooming. Mature spikes remain green for several years. It blooms for several years on old and newly matured spikes, so do not cut the spike unless it is brown and dry. Can be grown on a windowsill or under lights. Phal. gigantea f. alba is recessive in leaf size and growth habit, so Phal. YangYang Sweet Angel has compact round leaves for its type with big, full, round flower shape. Great potential for many awards from this hybrid. Flower color can range from green/yellow to art shade. These plants are robust and vigorous growers.
