Phal. Norman's White Jade 'Casablanca' (Norman's Jade x Norman's Mist) , MC2470
Introducing our newest hybrid from our smog-resistant Phal breeding program – Phal. Norman's White Jade 'Casablanca'. We started the smog resistant breeding program to create Phals that can withstand the summer heat and air pollution that we used to experience in Southern California. This striking variety has been known to flower for at least 4 months and is very resistant to heat and smog. It has performed exceptionally well in our greenhouse.
The pod parent, Phal. Norman's Jade ‘Montclair’ HCC/AOS, is Phal. Prospector Dream ‘FANGastic Green’ AM/AOS x Phal. Norman's Mist. Phal. Prospector Dream is a novelty yellow created and registered by R.& M. Borders in 1988. The late Mr. Borders of Tustin, California was a good friend of mine. Phal. Prospector Dream is Phal. Golden Amboin x Desert Dusk. Phal. Golden Amboin has strong Phal. amboinensis influence. Phal. Desert Dusk has Phal. Deventeriana as a parent, which is also a parent of Phal. Orchid World—an outstanding yellow Phal with red markings.
In making this cross, Phal. Norman's Jade ‘Montclair’ HCC/AOS was crossed with our awarded clone Phal. Norman's Mist 'Montclair' AM/AOS with impressive 5-inch white flowers, thus having a double dose of Phal. Norman's Mist. The result resembles Phal. Norman's White Jade having the appearance of a standard white but with tremendous flower substance on a compact plant with elegantly arching inflorescences. The clone ‘Casablanca’ is capable of producing two spikes carrying 10 or more long-lasting, white, diamond-dusted flowers with heavy substance, over 11 cm (4.33 inches) wide. Highly recommended for growers with limited space, as well as growing on a windowsill and under lights. We expect many awards from this cross.
