Paph. Irene Schwarz (Doll's Kobold x Baby Boo Boo) NF2781
Created by Dr. Harold Koopowitz, this adorable hybrid is his latest line of breeding to produce miniature complex Paphs. It is named in honor of Irene Schwarz, a long-time member of the North Jersey Orchid Society who actively and generously volunteered her time and energy in service of the society over several decades.
The pod parent, Paph. Doll's Kobold, is Paph. charlesworthii x Paph. henryanum. It is a vigorous grower. The flowers are somewhat variable, but most show distinct spots on the dorsal and the pink pouch from Paph. henryanum influence; pink dorsal from Paph. charlesworthii influence. The pollen parent, Paph. Baby Boo Boo, was also created by Dr. Koopowitz. It is Paph. Doll's Kobold x Paph. Coconut Candy. It is a green complex Paph. that is 50% Paph. charlesworthii.
Paph. Irene Schwarz is a very charming miniature complex Paph. These seed-grown plants have vigorous growth and produces nicely colored long-lasting flowers that are somewhat variable, but have Paph. charlesworthii and Paph. henryanum influence. These plants are flowering in a 2.5-inch pot. This is a very easy plant to grow and bloom!
Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow these plants in intermediate light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. Water twice per week for best results. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Excellent for growing under lights, on a windowsill, or in an orchid cabinet. Plants are weather tolerant, pest and disease resistant. Highly recommended for beginners, Paph collectors, and growers with limited space.
