Description  more details

Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) Simplicité is a primary hybrid with Paph. tranlienianum and Paph. villosum, created and registered by Mme. Briois in 2007. This population is a remake using the Paph. villosum var. annamense, which is a variety discovered in Annam (now Laos) with darker color.

Paph. tranlienianum is native to Vietnam. This miniature species is very peculiar-looking, long-lasting flowers with extremely wavy petals. Paph. villosum var. annamense is very compact, has attractive dark green foliage, is temperature tolerant, and can tolerate city water. The beautiful waxy flowers are smaller than the regular variety, have a dorsal sepal which is white with a central dark purple streak edged with pale green or yellow. The sepals are a yellow bronze-mahogany. The annamense variety is probably the best form of Paph. villosum with well-shaped long lasting flowers. Paph. villosum is one of the foundation species of "Bull Dog" or complex Paphiopedilums.

We have not flowered this cross yet, but very exciting with the outcome which will be starting to flower next spring in 2.5-inch pots. These plants will be miniature and have compact growth habit inherited from the Paph. tranlienianum. We have not yet flowered these, but we expect the long-lasting flowers to have brilliant color, waxy substance with glossy texture, and an exotic shape. Excellent for growing under lights, on windowsill, or in an orchid cabinet. These plants can bloom more than once a year if grown indoors under lights or grown outdoors (shady) in areas with mild winters such as Southern CA, Southern TX, and Southern FL, etc. Highly recommended for the Paph. collector.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
