We named this extraordinary miniature Phal after our long-time friend and client, Nyi Nyi Henne, affectionately called the “Grand Lady of Gainesville Orchid Society”. She is 88 years young and still active in the society and growing orchids.
The pod parent is our exclusive Phal. tetraspis ‘Blue Lip’, a magnificent blue tetraspis with a blue lip. The pollen parent, Phal. Norman's Pixie is Phal. Venus x Phal. lindenii. Phal. Venus is Phal. lindenii x Phal. equestris. This cross is essentially Phal. tetraspsis (blue ) x Phal. lindenii (twice) x Phal. equestris.
With Phal. tetraspis (50%) in this cross, we expect multiple spike growth habit on young plants. The plants should be very compact and free blooming, producing many long-lasting flowers from the influence of Phal. lindenii and Phal. equestris. The most exciting thing about this cross is the wide range of colors that should come out, and some will even be fragrant! Seedlings are fun and exciting—no two will be identical. It can be grown either mounted or in a pot. Tall spikes may need to be staked if potted. Water and fertilize regularly. During the hot summer months mounted plants may need daily watering. Do not let it get too dry. Plant thrives in high humidity, warm temperatures, and good air circulation. Can be grown on a bright windowsill, underlights, or in an orchid cabinet. Highly recommended for growers with limited space.
