Description

Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) primulinum is a terrestrial species native to the island of Sumatra. Album is the white color form of the species. It is easy to grow and flower, and will stay in bloom for months on end. This warm to hot growing species is a sequential bloomer that can bloom for up to a year on its first spike. The 1.5-inch, fragrant, flowers bloom in the summer months and open in succession.

Paph. helenae is a recently discovered micro-miniature species found in North Vietnam and South China. It is a warm to hot growing lithophyte in primary, broad-leaved, evergreen, mixed, open, mossy and coniferous dry forests at elevations of 328 to 3,000 feet (100 to 900 meters). It has dark glossy leaves that have a 3-4 inch span. It blooms in late summer and fall, up to two times a year. The flowers are 2 to 2.5 inches across and last a long time.

Paph. Wössner Mini Goldi is really charming primary hybrid with the micro-mini species Paph. helenae and the sequential blooming white color form of Paph. primulinum. The influence from Paph. helenae is really strong in this hybrid. It can produce 2 – 3 flowers per spike and can quickly become a specimen sized plant in a 4-inch pot.  These plants are compact and very easy to bloom and beginner friendly. Excellent for growing under lights, on a windowsill, or in an orchid cabinet.

Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them bright and warm with high humidity and good air circulation. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year.
