Description  more details

This charming hybrid was registered in 2018 by Luan Thi Dong, who named it after his wife. This strain, which comes from our friend James Fang of Hilo Orchid Farm, has Paph. armeniacum as the pod parent and Paph. Fanaticum as the pollen parent. In this remake, the flower is more golden-yellow, plant is more compact, leaves, and growth habit are strongly influenced by Paph. armeniacum.

Paph. armeniacum (a miniature) reduces the size of this hybrid, making it compact. Paph. Fanacticum is a primary hybrid of Paph. malipoense with Paph. micranthumPaph. Latoya has a compact growth habit as its leaf shape and size are dominated by Paph. armeniacum  and Paph. micranthum in its ancestry. It is slow growing, only reaching 4 – 6 inches leaf span when fully mature. Flowers have ranged from green with spots to fully concolor yellow with red column. Some seedlings have flowered with a light fragrance from the Paph. malipoense influence. The amazing mottled foliage is very attractive even when not in flower.

Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them in bright light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Can be grown on a bright windowsill, under lights, or in an orchid cabinet. This hybrid is hard to find in the market. Culture tip: grow this hybrid needs to have cool nighttime temperature to induce flower during the winter months. A “must have” for serious Paph collector. Highly recommended and look for many awards from this cross.
