Description

We are very pleased to be able to offer this amazing strain from Mr. Shen, a private breeder in Taiwan who is an educator by profession. These plants are a remake using the vinicolor (dark) form of Paph. delenatii. The flowers of this strain will be long lasting, darker, and plants have a more compact growth habit than the regular cross.

Originally discovered as a natural hybrid growing in China, Paph. Fanaticum, today it is man-made by crossing Paph. micranthum with Paph. malipoense. It has gorgeous, large flowers colored in green, pink and reddish stripes with a prominent pouch. The clone ‘Fumi’ pays homage to the renowned late hybridizer, Mr. Fumi of Japan.

Most of the plants in this remake were sold to Japan. We are the only firm lucky enough to obtain some limited seedlings. Harold Koopowitz remarked how wonderful the leaves from this remake looked as his former company, Paphanatic, also made the cross years ago. The leaves of these plants are dominated by the small leaves of Paph. delenatii var vinicolor, with lots of purple underneath the leaves—a good indication of darker flower color. Easy to grow and flower. Perfect for beginners.

Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them in bright light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Can be grown on a bright windowsill or under lights. We grow this species alongside our novelty Phals and they love warm days and warm nights. Not commonly found in the market. An absolute must-have for any Paph. collection. Limited quantity. Highly recommended and we look forward to some potential awards from this remake.
