Description

This leafless species is found in southcentral Taiwan on tree trunks in forests at elevations of 700 to 1000 meters as a small to medium sized, warm growing epiphyte. It blooms in the mid spring on a pendulous, up to 6-inch long inflorescence, carrying 6 to 15 green to yellow cascading flowers.

These plants are the result of crossing two varieties of Chiloschista segawae. It originates from a conservation project by the National Chiayi University, Horticulture Department. Our nursery has been a sponsor of the program and we are honored to help with scholarship and short term internships.

It is a warm to intermediate grower and grows well with our Phalaenopsis. It has a pleasant fragrance and plant is smaller than other Asian species of leafless orchids. Photosynthesis occurs in the root system. Plants are best grown mounted on slabs or plaques, require moderate shade, good air circulation, and cool to warm temperatures (60 – 65° F minimum). Plants should be grown in moderate shade and high humidity. Allow them to dry between watering. During growing season in the summer increase watering frequency and reduce watering during the winter during rest periods.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
