Blc. Pamela Hetherington 'Coronation' FCC/AOS , MC356
Blc. Pamela Hetherington (now reclassified as Rhyncholaeliocattleya, abbreviated Rlc.) is a classic American Cattleya created by my mentor Mr. Ernest Hetherington, who passed away in 2016 at age 98.
Mr. Hetherington is world renowned for his work with cattleyas and cymbidiums. He is an American Orchid Society Gold Medal recipient. He began his career at Armacost and Royston under B.O. Bracey. Later, he went on to become general manager and head of Stewart Orchids. Ernest, his wife Elsie and their daughter, Pam, were the "first family" of orchids. Mr. Hetherington's cattleya hybrids are iconic—Blc. Fortune, Blc. Ports of Paradise, Blc. Pamela Hetherington...the list is immense. Mr. Hethernington's passion for orchids was unparalleled.
Rlc. Pamela Hetherington is still one of the best winter/spring blooming standard cattleya. The plant is capable of carrying up to 4 massive 7-inch flowers. The flower can reach 25 cm [9.8 inches] if only 1 – 2 flowers are allowed to bloom per spike. Plants are compact for type of breeding. The long-lasting flowers have a heavy substance and sparking diamond-dusted texture that last at least 4 – 6 weeks. It has an amazing fragrance!
We are proud to offer this treasure in our Classic Cattleya collection. Highly recommended for all orchid hobbyists. A “must have” for Cattleya collectors.
