Phal. Silk Butterfly 'Monte Vista' (Butterfly Waltz x Spring Silk) , MC2118
Phal. Silk Butterfly was created and registered by the late, great hybridizer Homer Priestly "HP" Norton in 2002. I bought a couple of community pots of this cross from Mr. Norton when I visited his nursery years ago. The clone ‘Monte Vista’ was selected from this population for its impressive, 5+ inch, pastel pink, long-lasting flowers with very good substance, and diamond-dusted texture. Since it has large white Phals as parents, it is a fast grower with jade-green leaves. We have field tested the clone ‘Monte Vista’ and found it to have good pest and disease resistance and excellent for shipping in bloom. It is also a very good variety as cut flower for its long vase life.
Phal. Spring Silk was built upon the decades of the California line of large pastel pink phal breeding started by Armacost & Royston (located in West Los Angeles, later bought by Stewart Orchids). Blue Ribbon winner of 2018 Santa Barbara International Orchid Show. One of the judges remarked that it was one of the largest Phalaenopsis flowers he had ever seen. Emerging from strong green inflorescences, its shapely flowers will naturally cascade due to its massive-sized flowers. Phal. Silk Butterfly ‘Monte Vista’ is definitely award quality. Very highly recommended!
