We are thrilled to announce that our hybrid Phal. Norman's World received an Award of Quality (AQ) from the American Orchid Society (AOS) on May 13, 2023. I am over the moon, as this is my 4th AQ in my professional orchid career since 1986. I am grateful to and credit my success to many of my orchid mentors including Ernest Hetherington, Norito Hasegawa, Harold Koopowitz, Terry Root and many other countless people.
An AQ is awarded once to a cross exhibited by a single individual as a group of not less than 12 plants or inflorescences of different clones of a hybrid or cultivated species. At least one of the inflorescences must receive a flower quality award and the overall quality of the group must be an improvement over the former type.
The pod parent is our MC2382 Phal. YangYang Love 'Montclair' AM/AOS (Yaphon Lover 'Prince Canary' x Jong's Gigan Cherry 'Prince' AM/AOS). The pollen parent, Phal. GW Green World 'FANGtastic', is the chance mutation (and possible polyploid) of Phal. GW Green World.
Praises from the judges are: "Best novelty Phalaenopsis since Phal. Orchid World” and “the size of the flowers are a big step away from the novelty phalaenopsis from the 80s.” So far there are over 5 Awards of Merit (AMs) and one HCC/AOS (78 points) for this cross. This is my best novelty Phalaenopsis to date.
Long-lasting, waxy flowers have heavy substance, excellent shape and from, and amazing fragrance. Plants are compact and robust. Perfect for growing under lights or on a windowsill. Very highly recommended. Award quality.
