Phal. FANGtastic Stephen Mattana (Tetrasambo x tetraspis) , NF2821
We named this very intriguing cross after our friend and phenomenal grower, Mr. Stephen Mattana of Central Florida. The pod parent, Phal. Tetrasambo, is a hybrid with Phal. Tetraspis and Phal. amboinensis. In making this cross, we bred it with a lilac-colored Phal. tetraspis. Only two species make up this hybrid—Phal. tetraspis 75% and Phal. amboinensis 25%. Phal. amboinensis influences the fragrance and may introduce some red flowers. However, the wild card is what the influence the two different forms of Phal. tetraspis will be. Phal. Tetrasambo ‘Sweet’ has Phal. tetraspis 'C1' (i.e., the jumping color) as a parent. Phal. tetraspis ‘Lilac’ introduces the lilac color. These seedlings are exhibiting tremendous vigor. Plants have compact growth and have multiple spike habit. The spikes remain green for a long time and blooms for several years. Do not cut the spikes unless it is brown and dry. Fragrant flowers should have
heavy substance that make it last a long time. Grows well under lights, on a windowsill, or in an orchid cabinet. Can be grown in a pot, hanging basket, or mounted.
If you are looking for a highly unusual novelty Phal with tremendous vigor and love the excitement of seedlings, this is the one! Buy two and compare, as no two will be alike! Highly recommended for beginners and experienced growers.
