Description

Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) exul is a small to medium sized, hot growing, terrestrial species with 4 to 5, fleshy, glossy, green leaves 7 inches long. Found in peninsular Thailand in rock crevices up to 165 feet in elevation and flowers in the fall through late spring on a slender, 7-inch long, single flowered inflorescence. This species is fairly rare and quite uncommon in collections. It is not difficult to grow or flower. Its colorful, long-lasting, waxy flowers are 2.5 inches wide and maroon spotted central lime green veined patch on a large pure white dorsal sepal with wavy green petals and a glossy yellow green pouch. This species is one of the major species contributing to the creation of modern complex Paphs also known as the Bull-Dog type.

These warmth tolerant plants are a very strong strain with upright leaves. Very easy to grow and bloom makes it an excellent beginner plant. Can be grown on a windowsill or under lights. Grows well with Novelty Phalaenopsis as they have similar requirements. We expect many fine flowers from this population of a selfing of an awarded clone. Highly recommended.
