Paph. charlesworthii var alba (charlesworthii var alba 'Tokyo' x charlesworthii var alba 'Mt. Fugi') NF2493
Paphiodedilum (abbreviated Paph.) charlesworthii is a species of slipper orchid native to Assam India, Myanmar, Thailand, and southwestern China at elevations of 4,000 to 6,500 feet. The region is subjected to drizzle and fog in winter and spring. In summer to fall the region has heavy rainfall. It is a medium sized, cool-growing lithophyte that has lovely variegated green leaves with purple spots near the base and on the underside. It blooms in the late summer and fall on a 10-inch long inflorescence carrying a single, long-lasting, 3-inch flower. The rare alba form has a striking clear white dorsal sepal, contrasted by a green pouch and green petals. The plants are a sibling cross between two outstanding select alba parents from Japan, so we expect some outstanding flowers. These plants are dwarf, compact growing, and quite vigorous. Keep plants in moderate to bright indirect light with humidity at 60 to 80% with intermediate temperatures. Grow these together with your phals. This strain does not need cool nights to bloom. Excellent for growing on a windowsill or under lights. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excessive fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. These award quality plants are easy to grow and highly desirable. Highly recommended for the Paph. collector and species lover. Amazing award potential from this sibling cross of two of the best!
