Description

This is an unusual and unique intergeneric hybrid with two orchids in the Cattleya alliance. We have not flowered these plants yet but they are compact and have vigorous growth. We expect that they will bloom late spring to summer on tall spikes with numerous small, flowers (some will be fragrant).

The pod parent, Encyclia (abbreviated Enc.) kennedyi, is found in Mexico as a medium sized, cool growing, epiphyte at elevations around 5,900 to 6,500 feet (1,800 to 2,000 m) that flowers in the late spring and early summer on an inflorescence with 3 – 12 purple flowers. The pollen parent, Epidendrum prismatocarpum (now classified as Prosthechea prismatocarpa), is found in Costa Rica and Panama at elevations of 3,900 to 10,800 feet (1,200 to 3,300 m) as a large-sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with conical pseudobulbs that blooms from spring to fall on erect 15" long inflorescence carrying 6 – 35 long-lasting, waxy, fragrant white flowers with burgundy spots.

These plants should do well on a bright windowsill or under lights in intermediate temperatures. The flowers could resemble either parent or somewhere between the two. Take a chance and be surprised. Enjoy the excitement of buying seedlings—no two will be alike. Buy two and compare.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
