Description

Den. Chanthaboon Sunrise, a primary hybrid with Den. lamyaiae and Den. friedericksianum, was registered by Chanthaboom Orchids (Thailand) in 2011.

Den. lamyaiae is a miniature species native to Laos and Thailand. It produces numerous, large, orange flowers on a small plant. It has 1 – 3 inch stubby pseudobulbs (canes) with 2-inch dark green leaves. Short spikes emerge in spring from leafless canes each carrying 2 – 4 2.5 inch fragrant, brilliant red-orange upside down blooms. This species is deciduous, and will bloom after the leaves fall off in the summer months. The flowers are long lasting. Will rebloom from old canes, so do not remove them unless it is brown and dry. Den. friedericksianum is a cool to hot growing species from Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia. 1 – 2 inch semi-pendulous pseudobulbs bear many pale yellow, long-lasting, fragrant, 3-inch blooms with a darker yellow lip with an orange central blotch. It is easy grower that prefers intermediate to warm temperatures, but tolerates cooler conditions. This species is deciduous, and will bloom in spring after the leaves fall off after the summer months.

We imported the eye-catching clone ‘Firebird’ from our friend in Japan. This clone has the best features from the both species parents. It was selected for its ease of culture, compact growth habit and upright canes, which is an excellent feature for the growers with limited space. Den. lamyaiae species parent dominate the compact growth habit and abundance of flowers. Compact plants produce a spectacular profusion of fragrant, long-lasting, orange flowers with a red throat in spring. These plants can be grown on a windowsill, under lights, or in an orchid cabinet. The plant is deciduous, so it is normal for the leaves to fall off after the summer months, and will bloom from leafless canes in spring. Will rebloom from old canes, so do not remove them unless it is brown and dry. It is an easy grower that prefers intermediate to warm temperatures, but tolerates cooler conditions. This is the first release of this amazing clone. A must for any Dendrobium collector. Great for beginners and for people with limited space.
