Cycd. Wine Delight var Variegata 'Jem' FCC/AOS (Cyc. lehmanni x Morm. sinuata) , MC1981
Cycnodes (abbreviated Cycd.) Wine Delight is a hybrid between Cycnodes lehmanni and Mormodes sinuata. ‘J.E.M.’ is the best clone and highly awarded, garnering a First Class Certificate (FCC)—the highest flower quality award from the American Orchid Society. Cycd. Wine Delight ‘J.E.M.’ FCC/AOS has been a long time favorite for its long-lasting, waxy, red flowers that have a strong and spicy sweet fragrance like cherries.
Cycd. Wine Delight var. Variegata ‘J.E.M.’ FCC/AOS originates from a chance mutation from mericloning process that produced beautifully variegated leaves on more compact growths than the original ‘JEM’ FCC/AOS clone. Yet the flower size, color, and fragrance remain the same. The variegation is stable so we recloned this extraordinary rare strain.
This plant is related to Catasetum and should be given similar culture. Grow in medium bright light and warm temperature on a windowsill or under lights. Water and fertilize regularly, keeping the potting mix moist during spring and summer months. After flowering the leaves will start turning brown and dying back. It is normal for the leaves to drop off. Once the leaves have fallen off, keep the potting mix drier watering only often enough to prevent shriveling of the pseudobulbs. After new growths appear at the base and roots emerge, resume watering and feeding regularly. A rare find and limited! Very Highly Recommended!
