Rhynchonopsis (abbreviated Rhnps.) Tutti Fruiti is an intergeneric hybrid that was registered in 1988. This population is a remake using new and better species parents.
We are head over heels excited to release two extraordinary clones of this unusual intergeneric hybrid. This trend in breeding Rhynchostylis gigantea with Phals including novelty Phals is really exciting and producing amazing plants.
The pod parent, Phal. Little One, is Phal. hygrochila x Phal. japonica (formerly classified as Sedirea japonica). Rhynchostylis gigantea is an epiphytic species native to southeast Asia. It is a vandaceous orchid with arching spikes that are covered in ¾ to 1 inch flowers. It usually flowers in January to February, and the flowers can last for about 2–3 months and has a distinct spicy fragrance. There are several color forms of Rhynchostylis gigantea including red, orange, peach, alba, purple, and cartoon.
The clone 'Sapphire' has greater influence from Phal. Little One. The flowers are heavily spotted. Plants are compact, free blooming, floriferous, and has heavy flower substance, long-lasting blooms, and fragrance. It can be grown in a pot, hanging basket, or mounted. Excellent for growing under lights, on a window sill, or in an orchid cabinet. Can be grown alongside novelty Phals and Cattleyas. Rhnps. Tutti Fruiti 'Butterfly' (Item #MC2859) is our other clone, which has a fragrance that is slightly citrusy from the Phal. japonica. Buy them both for comparison. Highly recommended
