Propetalum (abbreviated Pptm.) is an intergeneric hybrid between the genera Promenaea and Zygopetalum. Pptm. La Jolla Delight 'Hilo Orchid Farm' AM/AOS is made with Promenaea stapelioides x Zygopetalum Kiwi Dust. The awarded clone ‘Hilo Orchid Farm’ produces long-lasting, fragrant, glossy, flowers with a deep saturation of burgundy overlaid on its green base color. This remarkable hybrid is a true miniature, dominated by its pod parent, Promenaea stapelioides. Mature plants will bloom in 3 inch pots. This hybrid is one of the best of this line of breeding.
These plants are super easy to grow and flower, making it an excellent beginner plant. It is an intermediate grower but has warmth tolerance, and can flower spring and fall for us in Southern California. We have successfully grown this plant outdoors in the shade (increase air circulation during hot temperature) for the last two years. Give it medium to bright indirect light but no direct sunlight. Provide good humidity and air circulation. Potting media should not be allowed to dry out. Keep moist but not soggy. Water and fertilize regularly. Grows well on a bright windowsill or under lights. Highly recommended.
