Description
We are thrilled to present an exclusive offering from Jiaho Orchids of Taiwan:
Phal. tetraspis f. imperatrix
'Red Rosa,' a stunning solid red variety of
Phal. tetraspis
(formerly known as
Phal. speciosa
). This exceptional clone showcases a vibrant red hue, making it a prized addition to any collection.
Native to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as northwestern Sumatra,
Phal. tetraspis
thrives in the hot, humid jungles at elevations near sea level. This species is known for its generous blooming habit, producing up to eight fragrant flowers on tall, branching inflorescences that rise elegantly above the foliage. Compact and vigorous, it can start blooming even from young plants. Notably, it features a multiple spike habit—flowers will continue to bloom from old spikes for several years while new ones are forming, ensuring a long flowering period. Remember, do not cut the spike unless it is completely dry and yellow.
As a sequential bloomer,
Phal. tetraspis
flowers alternately along the inflorescence, adding to its visual appeal.
Caring for this orchid is straightforward—simply treat it like any other color form of
Phal. tetraspis
. It can be grown either mounted or in a pot; however, taller spikes may require staking if potted. Be sure to water and fertilize regularly. During hot summer months, mounted plants may need daily watering, so avoid letting them dry out.
Phal. tetraspis
thrives in high humidity, warm temperatures, and good air circulation. It can flourish on a bright windowsill, under grow lights, or in an orchid cabinet.
This is a must-have for any serious collector of Phal species or novelty Phals, and it comes highly recommended for enthusiasts of fragrant orchids.
