Description

Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) Green Horizon was bred and registered in 1993 by Orchid Zone (no longer in business). This hybrid combines beauty of Paph. Makuli and the compact growth habit and ease of growth of Paph. philippinense.

The clone 'Account #1' is one of the best and garnered a Silver Medal (SM) from the Taiwan Paphiopedilum Society (TPS). The pod parent, Paph. Makuli f. album, was created by two awarded parents—Paph. sukhakulii f. aureum 'Paleface' AM/AOS x Paph. Maudiae 'Magnificum' FCC/AOS. The pollen parent, Paph. philippinense f. album, is the alba (white) color form of the species with very compact growing habit.

The leaf span of this clone is only 6 – 8 inches maximum. The growths are very tight and the leaves are lightly mottled. Plants produce 3 flowers approx. 5 inches wide borne on 12 – 16 inch inflorescence. Well-grown mature plants can flower on new growths, up to twice a year.

Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them in bright light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Can be grown on a bright windowsill or under lights.

We are very fortunate to obtain a limited number of divisions of the mother plant; rarely available in the marketplace. Highly Recommended.
