Description & Details

Formerly classified as Dockrillia, this easy to grow miniature species is named for its tongue-shaped leaves. It is found in the rainforests of Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. An intriguing miniature with a creeping growth habit, it has unusual succulent 1-inch leaves, produces a myriad of 6-inch long feathery sprays of 15 to 20 1-inch creamy-white spidery flowers in the spring that are intensely fragrant.

The creeping nature of the plant makes pot culture almost impossible; it grows best mounted. It is tolerant of exposure to sun, high temperatures, and drought; it should be sheltered from frost in cooler areas. Can be grown outdoors year round in hot climates where winters are frost free. Light daily watering in the morning should be sufficient during the spring and summer, although particularly hot days may warrant a second watering, particularly if the leaves start to shrivel. In the cooler months, watering can be less frequent. A drier winter rest can often improve flowering in the spring.

Propagation for this species is very easy. A short section, with roots and at least four leaves can be cut off from the parent plant, and placed on a new slab. Cuttings are best taken as new roots develop and anchor the plant to its new substrate. Highly recommended for the species collector.
