We recently registered this hybrid Rhyncattleanthe (abbreviated Rth.) Don Delano, named in honor of my horticulture mentor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). Don Delano was in charge of the Ornamental Horticulture Department and he hired me to help manage the Raymond Burr Orchid Collection with over 100,000 cattleya seedlings and one Cattleya Stud House. I am grateful to Don for giving this great opportunity, for his guidance and friendship.
The pod parent, Rth. Chialin Black Flower, has really dark lavender flowers. The pollen parent is our Rlc. Liu's Joyance 'Brilliant' (Chunyeah x Tainan Gold), which is one of the best modern yellow Cattleyas with red lip and impressive 8-inch flower.
Rth. Don Delano ‘Bravo’ was chosen for its compact size for type, large flowers, free blooming with spring and fall flowering capability, and can be easily grown under lights or on a window still. The fragrance is to die for! Award Quality and Highly Recommended.
