This hybrid Cattleya with gorgeous, brilliant, yellow/orange flowers with a red lip will brighten your day and add a splash of color to any space. Pot. Hsinying Sunprince was created and registered in 2019 by the past judging chair of Taiwan Orchid Growers Association (TOGA). The name Hsinying (新營) is a tribute to his home town located in the southern part of Taiwan.
The pod parent, Rlc. Hsinying Sunbean (C. Tokyo Magic x Rlc. Kat E-Sun), is one of the best yellow/orange Cattleya hybrids. The pollen parent, Pot. Young-Min Orange 'Golden Satisfaction' AM/AOS, is a multi-award winner! It garnered a Blue Ribbon and Best of Class at the 2010 Taiwan International Orchid Show, where it also received an 84 point Award of Merit (AM) from the American Orchid Society (AOS). When awarded, it was showing off with 152 heavy substance flowers on 20 inflorescences, averaging 7-8 golden-orange flowers per spike and creating quite a spectacular display.
The clone ‘Sweetheart’ has the best traits of both parents having an elegant growth habit and slim pseudobulbs. C. aurantiaca (syn. Gur. aurantiaca) in its background gives it weather tolerance, able to withstand high temperatures and cool temperatures down to 45°F (if kept dry). Good for growing outdoors in areas where winters are frost free. Can be grown on a bright windowsill or under lights. Its ease of care makes this plant an excellent choice for beginners. This is one of the earliest orange flowered Cattleyas, flowering in late winter/early spring. Award quality. Highly recommended.
