This new strain is a sibling cross of our two best spotted forms of Phal. tetraspis. The spots form are very special as it is the first color form to be introduced and our first type of Phal. tetraspis. We have been breeding and selecting for choice spots type for the last 10 years and have one of the best collection in the USA. This strain will have long spikes with more white flowers with vivid spots. These compact plants have very strong species vigor, producing as many as 2 – 3 long spikes as first blooming seedlings. Plants have a multiple spike habit, long-lasting, waxy flowers, with a wonderful scent.
Phal. tetraspis is native to the Andaman Islands, the Nicobar Islands, and northwestern Sumatra. Its natural habitat is the hot and wet jungles at elevations near sea level. Phal. tetraspis is a free bloomer, producing good size fragrant flowers, up to 8 flowers on each tall, branching, upright inflorescence held well above the foliage. It is a compact plant and vigorous grower and can begin blooming on young small plants. It has a multiple spike habit—flowers will bloom from old spikes for several years while new spikes are forming, so it will flower for a very long period. Do not cut the spike unless it is dry and yellow.
It is a sequential bloomer, flowering alternately on either side of the inflorescence.
It can be grown either mounted or in a pot. Tall spikes may need to be staked if potted. Water and fertilize regularly. During the hot summer months mounted plants may need daily watering. Do not let it get too dry. Phal. tetraspis thrives in high humidity, warm temperatures, and good air circulation. Can be grown on a bright windowsill or underlights. Highly recommended for Phal species collectors and lovers of fragrant orchids. Seedlings are fun and exciting—no two will be identical. Flowers from this cross will produce a variety of spot patterns. Buy two and compare!
