Description & Details

These plants are mature blooming size stem propagation of our awarded clone 'Montclair’, winner of Best Phalaenopsis at the International Phalaenopsis Alliance Symposium at Ontario, California. This extremely rare, solid red form of the species found in India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Nicobar Islands, Malaysia, Java, Borneo, Sumatra, and the Philippines in exposed lowland locations. They are warm to hot growing plants. The form chattaladae is the latest color strain discovered. Phal. cornu-cervi fma. chattaladae 'Montclair’ AM/AOS is confirmed to be tetraploid! It has large (for its type), fragrant, waxy, ox-blood red flowers, with soft chartreuse margins, readily produced on branching inflorescences. Stunningly accented with a bold broad white lip, this compact species is an easy grower that produces multiple spikes, flowering on old spikes for several years in addition to flowering on new spikes each year. Do not cut the spike off unless it is brown and dry. This species is heat tolerant; easy to grow; can be grown mounted or potted; on a windowsill or under lights; high humidity; air circulation; and warm to hot temperatures. No modern phal breeding program would be complete without Phal. cornu-cervi fma. chattaladae 'Montclair’ AM/AOS. A true collector's plant, these are in very limited supply!
