This spectacular hybrid is a result of our in-house breeding program and select tissue culture cloning. Phal. Norman's Yellow Butterfly 'White Lip' represents a new direction in Phalaenopsis breeding, combining the following sought-after traits: Big Lip, miniature size, compact leaves, multifloral spikes, and sturdy, branching inflorescences. This rare combination of features makes it a true gem among Phalaenopsis varieties. The flowers’ non-fading yellow coloration and thick substance further enhance their appeal, ensuring they remain vibrant for an extended period.
Big-Lip Phalaenopsis orchids are the result of a genetic mutation known as peloricism. In this specific type, the lip mimics the petals, also referred to as petaloid peloricism. This differs from the more common form of peloricism, where the petals mimic the lip. The distinctive Big-Lip trait adds an extra layer of uniqueness to this hybrid.
The pod parent, Phal. Lioulin Magic Lip, is a Big-Lip type with medium-sized yellow flowers. Its parentage includes Phal. Yu Pin Easter Island (another Big-Lip type) crossed with Phal. Sogo Shito, a waxy novelty orchid featuring solid gold-yellow, 3-inch flowers. The pollen parent, Phal. Chiada Katherine, is a hybrid registered by the National Chiayi University of Taiwan. This hybrid, developed by the university’s horticulture students, is a cross between Phal. Sogo Pinkama and Phal. Lioulin Pure Lip (another Big-Lip type). Notably, Phal. Sogo Pinkama has a rich breeding background, incorporating Phal. amabilis, Phal. aphrodite var. formosanum, Phal. schilleriana, and Phal. equestris.
