Phal. Corona was registered in 1973 by Shaffer's Tropical Gardens (Santa Cruz, CA), once renowned as the world’s most influential breeder of Phals (closed in 1986). Phal. Corona is a primary hybrid with Phal. cornu-cervi and Phal. amboinensis. This exciting new remake using two unusual color forms—the alba form of Phal. cornu-cervi and yellow form of Phal. amboinensis, is a perfect blend of both parents. Phal. cornu-cervi dominates the size of plant. This hybrid is like a miniature version of Phal. Valentinii. The super cute Phal. Corona 'Gold Nugget’ is a compact grower with a compact upright, self-supporting spike. A sesquential bloomer with light fragrance from Phal. amboinensis, it is also heat tolerant. The darling flowers are bright, glistening, pure yellow with white lip. Don't cut off the spikes as it will keep blooming on the old spike. This clone will be significant in breeding yellow/red fragrant novelty Phalaenopsis with species vigor and disease resistance. Grows well on a bright windowsill or under lights.
