Description & Details

Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) lowii is native to Sumatra, the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Java and the Celebes Islands. The album form is the rarest color form of Paph. lowii. The awarded clone ‘Hilo Gold’ AM/AOS of Paphlowii fma. album was the best among the population of a selfing of the extraordinary Paph. lowii fma. album 'Albino Beauty' CHM/AOS (Item #NF1871). These handsome plants are from a selfing of the clone 'Hilo Gold' AM/AOS and have tremendous vigor and a rare, unique, canary-yellow color, and attractive upright jade-green leaves.

This is an easy to grow, spring to summer blooming, multi-floral slipper orchid species, with tall erect spikes with up to 5 flowers. These plants are more compact and half the size in growth compared to the regular Paph. lowii. The album form prefers lower light than regular Paph. lowii. These plants grow very well with novelty Phalaenopsis as they require similar cultural requirements. Keep plants in moderate indirect light with humidity at 60 to 80% with intermediate to warm temperatures. Water as the potting mix approaches dryness. Excellent for growing on a windowsill or under lights. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. These top quality plants are highly desirable and very rewarding. Highly recommended for beginners and Paph collectors.

Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
