Description & Details

This primary hybrid of two Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) species from Thailand is a super charming miniature—plants flower on 2.5-inch leaf span and flowers are larger than the foliage! The Paph. thaianum parent highly influences the small size of this plant. Flowers are white with pink/purple speckles.

The pod parent, Paph. leucochilum, is native to a small area of Thailand. The plants are heavily mottled green on the top and covered with tiny purple spots underneath, solid purple in most plants. Leaf-spans are typically between 6 and 10 inches. Inflorescences produce 1-3 large round flowers. White to cream colored flowers are 2.5–3.5 inches across. Sepals and petals are marked with dark purple to purple-red spots. The pouch is pure white to cream. These prefer higher light than other Paphiopedilums. The pollen parent, Paph. thaianum, is found on limestone cliffs and in the forest of a small area in Thailand at elevations of 1,200 ft. to 1,500 ft. It is a miniature orchid with leaf spans from 1.5 to 4 inches. Plants are mottled dark and pale green, spotted with purple underneath. Inflorescences produce a single white flower, 1.25 to 2 inches across.

This adorable miniature hybrid Paph. is easy to grow and flower. It will perform well under lights or on a windowsill. Highly recommended for beginners and fans of miniature orchids.
