Description & Details

Featuring a breathtaking new direction in Paph. species breeding to covet! Mr. Bear, renown Paph. breeder and owner of Hung Sheng Orchid Nursery in Taiwan, created this new boldly spotted Paph. leucochilum strain using two of his best line-bred Paph. leucochilum.

Paph. leucochilum is native to a small area of Thailand. The plants are heavily mottled green on the top and covered with tiny purple spots underneath, solid purple in most plants. Leaf-spans are typically between 6 and 10 inches. Inflorescences produce 1-3 large round flowers. White to cream colored flowers are 2.5–3.5 inches across. Sepals and petals are marked with dark purple to purple-red spots. The pouch is pure white to cream. This species prefers warm temperatures and higher light than other Paphiopedilums.

Mr. Bear is also Judging Chair of the Taiwan Paphiopedilum Society, so you can be sure that he is aiming for top awards in creating this new strain. These plants are robust and fast growing, and are blooming on young plants. The flowers have bold markings that are more intense during the winter with cooler daytime temperature; and wonderfully wide dorsal sepal and petals, its beautiful foliage only adds to its total impact! This Paph. species is easy to grow and flower. It will perform well under lights or on a windowsill, and makes the perfect companion plant for Phal. since it grows in similar conditions.

Highly recommended for beginners, species collectors, and fans of Paphs.

Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
