Paph. henryanum is a delightful compact miniature slipper orchid species from China and Northern Vietnam. This outstanding strain originates from the same strain that received an Award of Quality from the Taiwan Paphiopedilum Society (TPS)! The parents are two award-winning strains: Paph. henryanum 'Sie Fong' was awarded a Bronze Medal (BM) from the TPS and Paph. henryanum 'Bear' was awarded a Silver Medal (SM) from the TPS. These impressive seedlings are producing large, showy flowers on small, vigorous, fast-growing plants. Flowers have an amazingly strong pouch color, heavily spotted dorsal and broad petals. Plants form clumps readily, producing many growths in a small pot that create quite a show when mature.
This Paph. species is easy to grow and flower and will tolerate some minerals in municipal or well water. It will perform well under lights or on a windowsill, in an orchid cabinet, or in a terrarium (with air circulation), and makes the perfect companion plant for Phal since it grows in similar conditions.
