Description & Details

Flowers and Characteristics
Paph. hangianum blooms from late spring to summer, producing a single, large, and fragrant yellow flower adorned with striking burgundy-red markings. The flowers measure between 2.5 and 4.75 inches in diameter, making them an impressive sight.
This specific population is a line-bred sibling cross developed by Tristar Orchids of Taiwan. The blooms initially open with a green hue and mature into a vibrant, eye-catching red flare at the center. The red-flared flowers are typically larger, with a natural spread of 4 inches or more, compared to the more rounded solid green form. Flowers reach their full size after 3 to 4 weeks, are long-lasting, and possess exceptional vigor.
The foliage of Paph. hangianum is light green with a textured surface, adding to its ornamental appeal. While seedlings grow very slowly, mature plants are robust, flower reliably, and are highly sought after. Blooming-size specimens of this desirable species are rare and highly recommended for enthusiasts.
Cultural Tips (To care for Paph. hangianum effectively):
Growing Medium: Use well-draining media to prevent soggy conditions, which the plant detests.
Light and Temperature: Provide moderate light and warm temperatures in summer with high humidity and good air circulation. During winter, keep conditions cooler and reduce watering.
Salt Sensitivity: Like all Paphs, this species is sensitive to salt buildup from fertilizers, which can cause leaf tips to brown. Flush the medium with fresh, clean water monthly to prevent this issue.
Repotting: Refresh the growing medium annually to ensure healthy roots and optimal growth.
With proper care, Paph. hangianum will reward growers with its stunning, vibrant blooms and robust growth.
