This spectacular primary hybrid was created and registered by Shen-Liu Orchids in 2010.
The pod parent, Paph. moquetteanum is a fantastic species from southwest Java that can flower sequentially up to 18 months or more. The flowers last 3 to 4 weeks and fall off as a new flower bud forms. One to three flowers can be open at any given time. Beautiful glaucous light blue green leaves with a gray cast. The pollen parent, Paph. adductum var. anitum (syn. Paph. anitum), is a variety of Paph. adductum with blue-green leaves and dark (almost black) dorsal sepal.
Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them in bright light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Can be grown outdoors in warm climates. Can be grown on a bright windsowsill or under lights. New technology advancements in LED lighting now make it possible to bloom and enjoy these plants in the home without a greenhouse.
Paph. Shen-Liu Peri produces up to 7 bold, eye-catching flowers with impressive size and color held on strong upright inflorescence. Paph. anitum imparts its color on all segments of the flower with very dark markings in the dorsal and petals and influences its shape with a wider dorsal. The showy flowers are large and long lasting. Compact plants have blue-green leaves. This remarkable multifloral hybrid is weather/heat tolerant capable of withstanding short-term temperature extremes but favoring warm temperatures, making it excellent for growing outdoors year round in places like Texas, Louisiana, South Florida where summers are hot and winters are frost free. This adaptable plant is an excellent beginner plant for its ease of culture. Makes a perfect companion plant for novelty Phals. Very highly recommended!
