Description & Details

Old hybrid, new look! Registered in 1979, Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) Catherine Briois is a primary hybrid of Paph. godefroyae and Paph. delenatii. This an exciting new remake using superior parents to give this old hybrid a new look that is more colorful and robust. The pod parent, leucochilum variety of Paph. godefroyae, has better flower shape and bold markings compared to the common species of Paph. godefroyae. The pollen parent, Paph. delenatii ‘Miss Saigon’, is the re-discovered and more robust strain of the species from Vietnam; it has huge 4-inch flowers with very round petals and a rosy-pink pouch on compact upright spikes. These exceptional plants are capable of blooming 3 flowers on a single spike—a wonderful bonus! The first seedlings to flower are averaging 2 to 3 flower per spike—evidence of tremendous species vigor. Flowers last for several months. The compact, stocky stems have cute little hairs. Its attractive glossy mottled green foliage makes a beautiful plant even when not in flower. Highly popular for its ease of care, it does not need a cooling or rest period. Makes an excellent companion plant for Phal., as it has similar growing conditions and care. Perfect for growing on a windowsill or under lights. Highly recommended!

PLEASE NOTE: Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
