Description & Details

Dendrochilum cobbianum is native to the Philippine islands of Luzon and Mindanao found on tree trunks covered with moss, or occasionally on the rocks, at elevations between 4,300 and 8,000 feet. This species is easy to grow and prefers intermediate to warm temperatures and moderate light. Keep evenly moist and do not let it dry out. Fertilize regularly with dilute solution (i.e., weekly weakly). It is fast growing, usually doubling in size every year. Plants are 8 inches tall with leathery spear-shaped leaves and narrow cylindrical pseudobulbs. Up to 20-inch long arching inflorescences appear on immature growths in summer. Over 100 fragrant small white flowers, closely arranged on slightly twisted inflorescence, are attractively accented with bright yellow elongated lip. Mature specimens put on a spectacular display. Perfect for growing on a bright windowsill or under lights.
