Description & Details

Dendrobium parishii is found in Hainan China, Assam, Bangladesh, eastern Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam in lowland forests and primary montane forests at an elevation of 820 – 5,578 feet (250 to 1,700 m). It is a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte. Fragrant [of rhubarb or raspberry], 2 to 3, waxy, long-lasting, hot-pink flowers are borne at the nodes on the upper half of old, pendulous, leafless canes that are husky. The flower color intensifies and darkens as it matures.

We are ecstatic to offer this rare, peloric form of the gorgeous species Dendrobium parishii. This is a seed grown sibling cross, with two awarded siblings as parents. The pod parent, 'JH #1', has a Silver Medal (SM) from the Taiwan Orchid Growers Association (TOGA), and the pollen parent, 'JH #2', has a Bronze Medal from the TOGA. These plants are blooming true peloric as each plant has flowers that are peloric. (Peloric is a mutation where the petals mimic the lip). These compact plants flower in late spring, making it a welcome addition to late spring/early summer flowering orchids.

Grow these magnificent plants in intermediate light levels, warm to hot temperature, good humidity with air circulation, and plenty of water and fertilizer while actively growing. Light level should be increased as the new growths mature in fall. Give a drier, cooler winter rest to initiate blooming the following season. The leaves will turn yellow and fall off—this is normal. Plants can be grown in a pot or mounted. Excellent for growing on a windowsill or under lights. Can be grown outdoors in hot climates where winters are frost free. Highly recommended for its unusual flower shape and wonderful fragrance.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
