Description & Details

Dendrobium goldschmidtianum (syn. miyakei) is native to Taiwan and the island of Batan in the northern Philippines. It is one of the most popular orchids because of its ease of growth and the showy display it puts on around Christmas time. It will often have a second (slightly lesser) blooming in later summer and early fall. It can also have flushes of flowers throughout the year. It bears clusters of flowers ranging from intense purple-violet to soft pink on deciduous old canes. The canes generally reach 2 to 3 feet in length. Do not cut old canes as it will continue to bloom. It can be grown mounted or potted with proper staking of the very long canes. Grows and flowers best in cattleya level light, warm to hot conditions year round with high humidity and air circulation. This species has no rest period, therefore water and fertilize regularly. Note, it is normal for leaves on one year old canes to turn yellow and drop in the fall. Highly recommended for species collectors, beginners, and growers in hot climates.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
