An unusual member of the Latouria section of the genus , Den. aberrans is a micro-miniature to miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte found in Papua and New Guinea in mossy forests at elevations of 1,000 6,200 feet (300 to 1900 m). This easy to grow, wearable orchid has clustered, spherical to spindle-shaped 1 to 3-inch pseudobulbs with 2 to 3 dark green leaves that blooms near the apex of old and new canes with wiry, short, erect or pendant inflorescence with up to six, long-lasting, 0.75-inch flowers held in a cluster occurring in the winter, spring, and fall. This floriferous, ever-blooming plant can produce several spikes per cane. Blooms twice per year or more for months! Reblooms on old pseudobulbs. The flat flowers are creamy-white with pure white bi-lobed lip, puts on a great display!
This plant does best mounted or in a hanging basket, but can be grown in a tight pot with fine grade bark mix. Give intermediate temperature and light, ample humidity and keep moist year round, although water and fertilizer should be lessened through the winter. Excellent for growing on a windowsill, under lights, or in a terrarium (with good air circulation). Can be grown outdoors in climates where winters are frost-free and above 50
F. Pest and disease resistant. A must for any dendrobium species collection. These seed-grown plants are now blooming size in 2.5-inch pots, growing in our fine Douglas Fir orchid bark mix.
