I fell in love with this plant when I was invited to speak and judge at the 2023 Penang Orchid Show in Malaysia last August. This hybrid produces clusters of flowers that are somewhat fan-shaped, The pointed sepals and petals are magenta or bright purple with a white picotee. The flowers are spectacular and eye-catching.
This strain is a remake from a local judge in Penang who used Den. secundum as the pod parent.
The original hybrid used the Den. smilliae. Den. secundum dominates the size of plant so plant is really compact. Den. smilliae strongly influences the flower shape and color.
These plants are very heat tolerant and can be grown on a pot, in a hanging basket, or mounted. Can be grown under lights or on a windowsill. Highly recommended.
