We are excited to announce the first USA release of the clone ‘Kitty’—the peloric form of the popular miniature Den. Christy Dawn. These plants are from a limited tissue culture. Den. Dawn Maree (Den. formosum x Den. cruentum) is a famous and popular, easy to grow, miniature dendrobium having large white flowers with a red-orange throat. The genetic composition of Den. Christy Dawn is 50% Den. christyanum, 25% Den. formosum, and 25% Den. cruentum. All three species in its background are members of the section formosae (formerly nigrohirsuite), characterized tiny black hairs on the undersides of the leaves and on canes.
Very long lasting flowers have a wonderful fragrance. It can flower from old leafless canes and newly matured canes. The peloric flowers have a diamond-dusted texture, are highly unusual, and eye catching. Can be grown on a windowsill, under lights, or in an orchid cabinet. These plants thrive in bright indirect light and intermediate to warm temperatures and high humidity. Grows well in a pot or mounted; allow it to dry out thoroughly between watering. Water and fertilize regularly during active growth. During the summer it may need to be watered daily. To ensure blooms give a cooler, drier winter rest—reduce watering and stop fertilizer beginning in November and give cooler nighttime temperature about 55-60°F. Resume regular watering and fertilizing when it blooms around March. Can be grown outdoors year round in areas where winters are mild and frost free. Highly recommended for fans of peloric orchids and collectors of miniature orchids.
