Aptly named ‘King Kong’, this particular clone of Blc. Sanyung Ruby (syn. Rlc. Sanyung Ruby) produces impressively extra large (up to 8”) flowers on compact robust growths! The pod parent, Blc. Waianae Coast is a hybrid of Blc. Bryce Canyon—a famous large pink cattleya with a yellow throat. The pollen parent, Blc. Chia Lin (syn. Rlc. Chia Lin), and its clones are exceptional breeders and have produced many award-winning crosses. One of the Blc. Chia Lin clones won the Grand Champion at the 1996 Japan Grand Prix International Orchid Show. Blc. Sanyung Ruby is undoubtedly one of the best of all the Blc. Chia Lin 'New City' AM/AOS hybrids. Blc. Sanyung Ruby is Blc. Chia Lin 'New City' back crossed to another wonderful yellow cattleya with red lip created by Miyimoto Orchids of Waianae, Hawaii. Blc. Sanyung Ruby 'King Kong' is possibly a tetraploid (4N) and probably the best of all the Blc.
