Description & Details

Angraecum leonis is found in Madagascar and the Comoros Islands in forests with a distinct dry spell at elevations of 200 to 1500 meters. It grows as a medium-sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with a short, stout stem carrying 4 to 5, flattened, fleshy fan-shaped leaves. It blooms in the spring, summer and early fall on 1 to 2 inflorescences arising from the leaf base, with 1—7 fragrant, jasmine scented, long-lasting flowers.

This unusual strain is a sibling cross from two different areas—one from Madagascar and the other from the Comoros Islands, which has larger flowers. These miniature plants are easy growers, free-blooming, capable of flowering twice a year.

Can be grown in a pot or in hanging basket on a windowsill or under lights. Give bright indirect light, frequent fertilizer and watering during active growth during spring and summer, and a drier winter. Grows well alongside Phals as they have similar requirements. Rarely found in the marketplace. A rewarding species that should be in every collection.
