Zglm. QF Amanda (Zygosepescalum Zesty Kaila x Zygopetalum Jumpin Jack) NF2435
This hybrid orchid is a mouthful to pronounce, but it is compact, fragrant, easy to grow, and blooms twice a year. Zygosepescalum (abbreviated Zsc.) QF Amanda is an impressive intergeneric hybrid consisting of the species Pescatoria x Zygopetalum x Zygosepalum. The parents are Zygosepescalum Zesty Kaila and Zygopetalum Jumpin Jack. Zsc. QF Amanda has a nice compact growth habit, with 2.5-3 inch flowers with heavy substance; the petals and sepals are chocolate brown with a green edge and green center and the lip is striking pink. Despite its long and complicated name, it has a culture similar to Zygopetalum. It has temperature tolerance, able to tolerate the heat of summer to cool temperatures of the winter, with good air circulation. The roots do not like being dry, so sphagnum moss is the preferred medium and keep it moist (not sopping wet) when actively growing. It thrives in intermediate temperatures, bright indirect light, high humidity, and good air circulation. This hybrid is capable of blooming twice a year and can produce up to 3 spikes per growth, so it puts on a fabulous show in a small pot when in bloom. Our clients in Orlando and Southern Florida report success growing this hybrid in deep shade. Highly recommended for beginners.
