Description

Trichocentrum nanum (syn. Oncidium nanum) is a small sized species. It is a hot to warm growing epiphyte from Venezuela, Brazil, The Guianas, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru in wet montane forest at elevations up to 4,600 feet (1,400 meters).

This Oncidium relative can be recognized by its mule-ear shaped leaves that are thick and leathery and often speckled purple. It produces many, successively flowered, clustered panicle with long-lasting fragrant flowers occurring in the spring through fall. These plants require bright light (Cattleya level), intermediate to high humidity, and warm to hot temperature. Water and fertilize regularly during the warmer part of the year, sharply reduced watering during the cooler part of the year. These plants need a definite rest period of 2 to 3 months. Can be grown mounted or in a hanging basket. If grown in a pot, a coarse grade medium is recommended.
