Description

We are super excited to release the world’s first semi-alba strain of Phal. tetraspis! This new seed-grown strain is a sibling cross of two white Phal. tetraspis with red lip.

These plants are very uniform and all come out to be white with colored lip. Depending on temperature,  some flowers might have a couple fine, red spots on the petals if daytime temperature is high.

We have been breeding and selecting various unique strains of Phal. tetraspis for the last 10 years and have one of the best collections in the USA. These compact plants have very strong species vigor, producing as many as 2 – 3 long spikes as first blooming seedlings. Plants have a multiple spike habit, long-lasting, waxy flowers, with a wonderful scent.

Phal. tetraspis is native to the Andaman Islands, the Nicobar Islands, and northwestern Sumatra. Its natural habitat is the hot and wet jungles at elevations near sea level. Phal. tetraspis is a free bloomer, producing good size fragrant flowers, up to 8 flowers on each tall, branching, upright inflorescence held well above the foliage. It is a compact plant and vigorous grower and can begin blooming on young small plants. It has a multiple spike habit—flowers will bloom from old spikes for several years while new spikes are forming, so it will flower for a very long period. Do not cut the spike unless it is dry and yellow.

It is a sequential bloomer, flowering alternately on either side of the inflorescence.

Grow these plants just like any other color form of Phal. tetraspis. It can be grown either mounted or in a pot. Tall spikes may need to be staked if potted. Water and fertilize regularly. During the hot summer months mounted plants may need daily watering. Do not let it get too dry. Phal. tetraspis thrives in high humidity, warm temperatures, and good air circulation. Can be grown on a bright windowsill, underlights, or in an orchid cabinet. A “must-have” for any serious Phal species or novelty Phal collection.

Highly recommended for lovers of fragrant orchids.
