Phal. pulcherrima var. coerulea (pulcherrima ' Selby Blue' x self) , NF1082 , NF108 , NF1 , 1082
Formerly Doritis pulcherrima, Phal. pulcherrima’s natural range is very wide spread. It is found from northeast India through Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and further south through Malaysia, Sumatra to Borneo. It is a hot to warm growing species usually found at low elevations. Phal. pulcherrima thrives in hot to warm temperature, high humidity, and good air circulation. This is a selfing of a rare, very good, blue (coerulea) variety from a private collection in Thailand. We are very fortunate to obtain limited dry seeds as a gift from a friend in Thailand during a trip. This strain is very compact growing, robust, and easily forms basal keiki. It produces a tall, upright spike with 10 or more flowers with excellent color and form. Heat tolerant, it can be grown outdoors in hot climates that have frost-free winters like southern CA and southern FL. Does well on a bright windowsill or under lights. A “must have” for any hybridization program for blue Phals. Highly recommended for growers in hot climates, species lovers, and collectors of blue orchids.
