Phal. amboinensis 'I-Lan' ( x ) MC2325
Phal. amboinensis is native to the island of Ambon, as well as the Toli-Toli District on Sulawesi, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It grows in the shade on the trees in the damp woods at an elevation up to 1,300 ft. The choice clone, 'I-Lan', named after I-Lan County in Taiwan (宜蘭縣), is one of the darkest color forms of Phal. amboinensis. One of the most strongly scented Phalaenopsis species, it is highly fragrant with a sweet honey scent. Its fragrance is even sweeter than Phal. violacea or Phal. belina.
The plants produce multiple spikes that remain green and reblooms for several years. Do not cut the spike unless it is brown and dry. Mature plants will produce branching spikes. It is a sequential bloomer, where flowers open one or two at a time alternating on either side of the spike. Flowers have a heavy substance and last a long time. The plants are robust growers and have heat tolerance. This clone has been accepted as a tetraploid and would very valuable for use in breeding with modern complex novelty hybrids. Excellent for growing on a windowsill or under lights. Highly recommended for species collector, fragrant orchid lover, Phal hybridizers, and Phal fanatics.
